Edifier QR30 Speakers review for my neon-themed office

Edifier QR30 Speakers

The Edifier QR30 is the perfect set of speakers with customizable color led lighting to fit my newly reorganized pink neon-themed office.

I withheld from buying new speakers for my desk for a while because I just couldn’t find the right ones. For a while I was even using the Alexa Echo Dot which was really a poor placeholder, especially since it would constantly loudly announce, “Now connected to Karen Compy” every time the bluetooth re-established audio connection… Ultimately, I wanted either something tiny so they would not be obtrusive, or something that would fit the aesthetic of the rest of the space. Eventually to my delight, in came the newly released Edifier QR30—the younger sibling to the QR60, which I had admired but felt was too big and too much oomph for my minimalistic setup. The slightly smaller dimensions of these QR30 allow them to fit right underneath my side monitors without being in the way.

Nowadays when I’m in the mood for deep music listening, I usually use my headphones. So my speakers don’t need to blow my socks off but should still be pleasurable to listen with. To my ears, the sound coming from the QR30 is as good as my previous passive bookshelf speakers that were connected to my computer via a stereo system. Initially out of the box, the sound was a bit muffled and small, but after breaking them in with a few hours of music in various range, the sound has really opened up!

To control the led color and animation on the speakers, Edifier comes with a desktop app that makes it pretty easy to customize to my liking. I don’t prefer flashy lights, so I just have mine at a solid pink to go with my current office theme. I like that I don’t need to have the app running all the time (because there are just so many background apps nowadays…). There’s a dial on the side of the right speaker to change lighting presets too if one wishes. I also like that it comes in white or black, and that there are multiple ways to connect the speakers, via bluetooth, USB, or aux  standard 3.5mm audio cable.

I’m quite happy with my choice for my new desktop speakers. I’m no hardcore audiophile, but for general purpose listening via the good ol’ compy, the Edifier QR30 has been a great buy and something I will likely use for years.
